Ten Thing I want to Do in the Next Ten Years

I am already sixteen years old. I don’t know where the time went. It seems like yesterday I was getting on the bus for the first day of pre-school. There is a ton I want to do in my life. Instead of telling you the things I want to do before I die, I want to tell you ten things I want to do before I turn twenty- six.
1. I want to graduate from Worcester Academy. I want to leave this school knowing that I worked my hardest for two years. I want to know that I did everything I possibly could to achieve the grades I received. I also want to graduate knowing that I played my hardest in sports, and that I made friends that I will hopefully keep for the rest of my life.
2. I want to get my first job. I don’t know what it will be yet, maybe a central transporter in a hospital, or maybe I will work at Jimmy’s Pizza in Dudley. It really doesn’t matter. I want to see what it is like to have a job, what it feels like to earn money. I want a sense of responsibility, and I want to show people that even though I don’t have to right now, I am willing to work for what I get.
3. I want to attend Duke University. This is something I have wanted to do since I was six years old. I want to get that acceptance letter and tell them I am coming and by the way, I want to enroll in their pre-medical program, and have the four best and hardest years of my life.
4. I want to be a Cameron Crazy. I have watched Duke basketball games religiously for years. I have seen them, I have heard them, but I am not one. I want to be one of those kids covered in blue paint, jumping up and down the entire game. I want to be in Cameron Indoor Stadium when Duke plays rival North Carolina.
5. I want to go to Yale Medical School. After I graduate from pre-med at Duke, I want to specialize in pediatric cardiology at Yale. This is where I hope to get a ton of hands on training that will prepare me for residency.
6. I want to buy a really nice car. A Mercedes, or Lexus, or BMW. I’m not sure which yet. I just really like nice cars and want to have one that I bought on my own. I think that doctors have a high social status, and I want a nice car to go along with the occupation.
7. I want to do my residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. I have had three surgeries at this hospital and it is one of the best teaching hospitals in the world and I would feel honored to learn there.
8. I want to begin my career as a pediatric cardiologist at Children’s Hospital in Boston. I really do love Children’s Hospital. I think it is a great environment where kids can be themselves and feel comfortable no matter how awful their condition may be. I would love to be that doctor that even though the children have something wrong that they aren’t afraid to come see me, or get surgery. I just really want to help kids heart problems when they are younger so they don’t have to suffer when they are older.
9. I want to buy an apartment in the North End in Boston. Although I am not Italian, I love the North End. I love the people, the atmosphere, and most importantly, the food. It is such a good location in the city and I would love to live here.
10. I want to marry a Red Sox player. This might be a little out of reach, but how sweet would it be to get to go to all the home games? I will be in the city so I might as well find a way to enjoy some baseball. Not only would I be a sports wife, but an accomplished doctor. So there you have it.
