Five Reasons Why You Should Be Excited About Spring

1. Say goodbye to snow and ice
The most obvious reason why WA students should be excited about spring coming is saying farewell to the dreaded snow and ice that plagues Massachusetts every winter. Although snow can sometimes be useful; school cancellations, snow tubing, snowball fights, snowmen, and fresh powder for you skiers and snowboarders, it gets to a point where enough is enough and the sight of snow becomes downright sickening. Spring marks the end of having to wear your snow boots that take roughly 9 years to tie, north face jackets, and the dreaded feeling of snow in the back of your shoe. Spring also melts the snow off all the athletic fields and something we all haven’t seen in what seems like an eternity, the quad. So whether your basketball, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, or trying to cut across the quad without being apprehended by the WA faculty, Spring means one thing, green grass and fun in the sun.
2. A more positive outlook on school
If you hate cold as much as I do, the commute from Kingsley to walker in the early morning bring about feelings of horror, pain, and thoughts of cutting class. Its hard enough to brave the cold first thing in the morning, but to be exposed for minutes while you hike across campus with one eye open, still yawning from the restful 5 hour sleep you got the night before, the cold is nothing short of awful. Also if for some dreadful reason you forgot your coat, you might as well put your doctor on speed dial because there’s a more than decent chance you could have contracted a mild case of hypothermia by the time you reached the Walker steps. I’m willing to bet that while most of you were on this arctic journey across the campus the only thing that propelled you to the next class were the days ahead where the cold wouldn’t slap you in the face every time you opened a door, instead you would be greeted by the smell of freshly cut grass and a nice breeze.
3. Warm Weather Dress Code
It doesn’t get more self explanatory than this. I sure am going to miss the loss of circulation to my head caused by throwing a tie on each and every morning. My guess is when the warm weather dress code is installed there will be dramatically less tardies because we can spend less time fastening ties and enjoy being able to breathe without battling the grip of a boa constrictor around our necks. Not to mention, comfortable clothes makes the school day go a lot quicker. When it comes to the warm weather dress code there is absolutely no down side.
4. The final stretch
I can speak form experience here. Being a postgraduate at Worcester Academy, I have experienced the final months of senior year. It is flat out the best time one can have in high school. Everyone knows where the going to college, classes are winding down, and summer is just around the corner, it doesn’t get much better than that. A warning to all who have attended Worcester Academy for the entirety of their high school years, don’t take this time for granted, it is the last time you will see the people you grew up with every day, and while you will stay in contact with your best friends, you wont see everyone in one place again. Even though senioritis is in full effect, and the only thoughts in your head is getting your diploma and the future, don’t take any of the rest of your year for granted because you will miss it once its gone.
5. BASEBALL SEASON
Ok, I may be a little bias in this section, but so what. Baseball season is the greatest time of the year. Nothing even comes close. Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Thanksgiving, and Easter are all fun times when you get to see your family and have fun, but its hard to compete with the first “Play Ball!” of the year. If you don’t agree with me, come out to the games and support the team and maybe we can change your mind.
